PUMP EFFICIENCY TESTING

Overview

For facilities with multiple pump systems, Process Energy Services has the equipment and experience needed to evaluate pump system efficiency. Over the last five years, our staff has tested over 500 pumps ranging from small water booster pumps to 3500 horsepower centrifugal pumps equipped with variable speed drives. These tests have identified inefficient pumps costing facilities thousands of dollars in wasted energy.

Our testing equipment includes a portable ultrasonic flow meter, pressure instrumentation, power quality analyzer, strobe tachometer and data loggers to trend equipment operation. After field data is collected, Process Energy Services goes beyond what most companies provide. Instead of presenting only raw data plotted on pump curves, we provide an in depth review of the pump system that includes photos, a detailed explanation of how each measurement was taken, and how the data was converted into useful results.

These results are inputted into our report templates and the Department of Energy’s Motor Challenge Program “Pump Systems Assessment Tool “Software (PSAT) to provide an “optimization rating” of the pump system and how it compares with the Hydraulic Institute Pump Manufacturer’s Database. This information is used to determine if a pump should be refurbished, replaced or if system adjustments are the best solution to improve efficiency.

Benefits

The benefits of our pump efficiency services include:

·  Immediate cost savings identified by comparing existing pump system efficiency with the original specifications or upgrading to an optimized pump system identified by the PSAT program.

·  "Grades" each pump system to provide an easy-to-use method to designate the most efficient pump as the lead pump for energy savings.

·  Helps identify pumps in need of repair when abnormal electrical readings or low flow measurements are documented.

Process Energy Services can also help facilities establish their own pump efficiency program by training in-house staff to collect data, use the report spreadsheet templates and analyze data with the PSAT program.
